Winter Elopement, Austria

Being a Destination Make Up Artist has many joys and this is one of them! Grabbing my passport and my kit, I’m so flippin’ grateful I get to call this work, especially when I get to take my snow boots too.

Hitting the Austrian state of Tyrol with Lake Achensee as our main backdrop for this incredible elopement. It looked a little dicey at first, as there wasn’t much snow when we arrived, however, give it 12 hours and the winter wonderland graced us when we woke. The snow dancing worked! (yes it a proper thing, I promise!)

Of course, the drive to Alpbach with photography buddy Shelly Mantovani up to our mountain lodge was NOT a walk in park (no change there!) Zero view, pitch black, narrow mountainside roads and of course, the sat nav wasn’t playing ball. We entered many a private residence drive way, until we found our home for the next few days, PHEW!

There’s something special about being in the mountains, whatever time of year, although, I do feel most at ‘home’ when it’s winter. Throwing on the winter snowboarding jacket, wooly hat and snow boots plus the views of snow capped mountains when you wake makes my heart sing and my soul oh so happy!

Austrian Wedding Supplier list of dreams

A welcomed hug from Kate Kennedy of Destination Wedding Co greeted us followed by a chilled beer set the stage for the next few days together.

I’ve known Kate for a couple of years and had the pleasure of working with her on a wedding she beautifully co-ordinated in Northumberland the previous Summer. Kate has the most incredible attention to detail and I knew she would have the top team for this elopement.

Beautiful Alpbach

We started the morning early with me on hair and make up for the beautiful Kate, as the morning mist was leaving the high mountainside view. Kate was wearing a romantic and soft Chantelle Lauren design from Ghost Orchid Bride and I wanted to create soft make up that represented an intimate elopement, nothing too fussy, effortless in fact. Soft warm smokey eyes and soft low chignon suited Kate’s complexion and overall style. Of course, it was freezing as it had snowed quite a bit the night before, so Kate wore a snuggly faux fur jacket to keep her a little bit warmer along with a fleecy blanket. Tom looking every bit dapper and of course keeping bride Kate warm, as grooms do!

Sportresidenz – Zillertal Wedding Venue

Part of the day was spent at Sport Residenz hotel in Zillertal in their bridal suite with wrap around views of the mountain with not a soul in sight. Taking time to write their vows and enjoy their pre wedding moments together before the special time at Lake Achensee. Kate had decorated their wedding dinner table, romantic and perfection for their elopement.

A beautiful landscape and backdrop for their vows, Lake Achensee is nestled in the heart of the Karwendal mountain range and WOW it did not disappoint! Despite frozen toes and numbs fingers, this was most definitely worth it. Kate and Tom had beautiful portraits taken and Kostas has curated an emotive and beautiful film, see a little further on.

The following day involved us all hurling ourselves down a mountain doing what we enjoy most, snowboarding and skiing. What an AMAZING TRIP! One I shall remember for a long time. Hope you enjoy these images as much as we did creating them.
